Tap to Change (2019) is a video performance in which I reflect on the plasticity of identity online, augmentation of faces through filtering and connecting over social media networks. Online pliability is a contemporary mechanism by which humyn connections are mediated and understood. It has become essential to the survivability in a hyper consumer-based society obsessed with perpetual innovation. In this performance, I perform for the camera, a mundane gesture extracted from my daily living. While augmenting my face with a series of filters, a monologue overlaps the video and unfolds a narrative encompassing the flattening of complex realities and emotions, collapsing the physical body, self-obsession as attention currency, alienation, post-human existence and reconfiguring the self as part of networked existence.
