Strike, Dip, Spin (2019) is a site-speific video installation employing vogue dancing as a queer intervention in public spaces. The work poses the voguing body as on with agency and a metaphor for the politics of queer identities surviving in complex social terrains. The ceiling of the Royal Canadian Legion is replaced with a dance floor where bodies can be watched but remain untouched. It becomes a space for istance as dancers move through improvised and femme-styles performance. Labouring bodies respond to ideas of identity performance and interrogate the role that culture plays in the construction and constitution of gender.
