Love Will Outlive Me (2021) is an Augmented Reality work that integrates themes of connection, perseverance, the human need to connect through touch. The work combines sonicly inspired elements and lyrics of the song, Love Will Outlive me by Laura Hickli, and imposes 3D floating hands that reach out and meet each other in an embrace to represent human connection in a networked existence. Karen Barad in On Touching - The Inhuman That Therefore I Am discusses touching as sensing matter and relates matter to condensations of response-ability, “Each of “us” is constituted as responsible for the other, as being in touch with the other”. While living as the first generation of people existing under a global pandemic connecting with others over screens, the work highlights the importance and relevance of human contact as it is mediated by devices.
